Townville v Northowram Fields CC First XI on Sun 29 Jul 2007 at 1.30
Northowram Fields CC Lost by 88 runs

Match report The Rams hopes of a huge cup upset over giants Townville to reach the final of the Jack Hampshire cup, were well and truly quashed at the hands of the Premier league leaders, eventually losing out by 88 runs.

Townville were sent in to bat by the Rams skipper Larner, and the decision looked to be a good one with great bowling up front by Billy Grogan and Gary Rodger. Grogan nearly providing the breakthrough, but the chance went down in the gully region by Jason Smith, who was certainly still feeling the effects of a weekend spent with, no I mean staring at some Eastern European delights.

Gary Rodger claimed the first wicket, after a good opening spell, enticing the opener in to a sweep slog which went down the throat of Billy Grogan on the square leg boundary. Matthew Lloyd and Scott “eagle eyed” Hadnum kept up the good bowling, and things were looking even brighter for the Rams when Chris Thompson and Matthew Rushworth reduced the home side to 110 for 3, with only 15 overs remaining.

But from here on after, it can only be described as bullish behaviour by the home team, as Nick Bresnan, stepped out of the shadow of his brother to destroy the Rams bowling attack and make Townville strong favourites to reach the final. Bresnan finishing up with 75 runs of just 37 balls! Although Chris Thompson gained the prize wicket of Timmy Walton, only after he had scored 84 runs, and was probably just bored of batting against Northowram and hitting them to all parts of the ground!

Townville eventually finished on 244 for 5 of their 40 overs and it would have to take a majestic knock from one of the Rams batters for them to reach their first ever Jack Hampshire final.

Things were looking good for the Rams at 100 for 2, with Paul Bottomley playing well with his size 4 bat, and Jason Smith nurdeling the ball around the ground. But once Paul Bottomley was wrongly giving out stumped, for 44, the Rams collapsed to 156 all out.

The bright note in the innings being the laughable attempt by Paul Mitchell to gain his first run of the year, yes you read it right, first run of the year! I can dually say he failed again with this latest attempt. You certainly have to feel for the lad, but im sure his team-mates will be backing and encouraging him until the run does eventually come.

The Rams cup run has come to and end, but I am sure plenty of encouragement can be taken from the run for the rest of the season, in which they will be searching for their division 1 title!!
