Northowram Fields CC First XI squad

First XI

Captain : Dru Patel

Practice paid off in 2018 with over 500 league runs at an average of 31 and the 'reward' of Club Captain for 2019. Can he score a similar amount with the burden of captaincy around his shoulders and the knowledge that it's his responsibility for getting the best out of JBK?

Vice Captain : John Lister

613 league runs at an average of over 43 in 2018 surprised everyone. Especially himself. Was it a flash in the pan or can he score as heavily again? Those who like a bet say 'not a chance'. Let's hope he proves them wrong.
Players
Josh Bennett
Firmly into the NFCC veteran category these days and still as destructive a bowler as ever when he's got his head on and isn't moaning about being injured. More than capable of bagging 50 wickets plus if he gets through a full season and concentrates on knocking the stumps over.
Louis Cockburn
NFCC through and through and proved himself at First XI level early in 2018 with a cracking century. More than capable of bagging plenty more if he stops thinking about things as much. Used to be a contender for slowest player at the Club along with mini-Knocker but has definitely speeded up in recent years.
Dean Crossley
Prolific runscorer for Southowram for a number of seasons and, hopefully, Dean will be just as prolific for NFCC. Should also be an excellent foil for the promising young batters in the First XI.
Joshua Dodd
Kenneth rediscovered his love for cricket in 2018 just about the same time he discovered he doesn't really like work. Promotion to the First XI in the second half of the season resulted in some typical displays - occasionally very good with the ball, sometimes poor, occasionally very good with the bat, usually poor, and always damn good in the field.
Sam Gardner
Sam is a new signing for 2019 from Premier League side Lightcliffe. An accurate opening bowler with a lovely shape away from the right-handers, Sam will be hoping the drop in class will bring him a load of wickets this summer.
Humayan Shahzad
New signing from Keighley CC, Hami is an opening quick bowler and destructive lower order batsman who shouldn't have much trouble clearing the ropes at NFCC.
Jacob Slator
A league average of 20 in 2018 doesn't tell the whole story by any means, Jacob given the task of opening the batting for most of the season and, for such a young 'un, impressing with the way he toughed it out at the top of the order on a number of occasions. He'll score plenty more in 2019 and has a happy knack of taking wickets when thrown the ball, too. Could do with applying more sun cream, even when it's cloudy.
